JANET B. ARMSTRONG is a native Calgarian and the owner/operator of Just ImaJan Art Studio Inc.  Her passion for painting and 25+ years of experience in the art world have evolved into her one-of-a-kind art studio and gallery located in the heart of Cochrane, Alberta.

Janet has created paintings for numerous corporate and themed events, as well as large murals and works for private commissions and collections.  Her paintings have appeared on the covers of local magazines and have been displayed as far away as Europe, the U.K. and Thailand.  One painting, Morning at Ground Zero 2005, is currently part of an art exhibition touring throughout Europe and the United States.

Formal education included studies at the Alberta College of Art, the Burlington Art Centre, and the University of Calgary. Frequent participation in artists' advanced workshops helps her to continually hone her skills.

Janet began her career at Gulf Oil in Calgary, where she worked as an artist for seven years.  The desire to blaze her own trail tempted her away from the corporate scene.  As an independent contractor she has been engaged by the Calgary Public Library, the Calgary Zoo, the Calgary Board of Education, Eastslope Studios, Silvermoon Productions, Studio Y Creations, Anne Murphy Designed Events, and Udderly Art, among others.  In addition, she taught painting classes to aspiring artists at various venues throughout Calgary and area for eight years.

She has donated artwork and volunteered her time on collaborative projects to benefit many organizations across Alberta.

Community minded, she is an active member of the Cochrane & District Chamber of Commerce.  She is also a member of the Arts & Culture Foundation Cochrane.  Her gallery is part of Historic Cochrane Downtown Business Community (HCDBC).

In 2010 Janet joined the California Plein Air Painters Society.  In 2011 she began Just Imajan Plein Air Painters, an online community for other plein air painters to share and showcase their work.  Using this online forum, she coordinates outings to encourage local painters to meet up and paint outdoors.

In 2012, Janet was invited by the Leighton Artists Colony to be an artist in residence at the Banff Centre for the month of March.

As of April 2013, Janet is an Active Member of the Federation of Canadian Artists; she also became an Active Member of the Federation of Canadian Artists - Calgary Chapter.

Presently, Janet paints full-time and is selling her works at her Cochrane studio/gallery.  Visitors to the gallery can watch her painting onsite.
