Mixed Media Visual Arts

Tracy Burton is a second generation Albertan living in the foothills west of Calgary. She loves the untamed world and has been a horseback wilderness guide for over 25 years. Passionate about western and indigenous cultures, history and pre-history, Tracy is especially inspired by artefacts that tell of people's relationships with the earth and its creatures, and communion with the spiritual realm.

She says, "As human beings, we have expressed our sense of wonder for the 'extraordinary' through creation and ritual over the millennia," and explores those deep and primitive connections through her own work - mixing contemporary and traditional materials such as paint, photographs, documents, along with feathers, fur, quills, and trade beads. Vintage wax thread and copper wire tie old to new ...and past to present. “As human kind, we cannot help but be moved when we see the marks that say 'we were here, this is our story'. Perhaps art is the ancient and original way to speak our truth, to share our dreams, to remember, and to worship. These things I am compelled to do.”

Tracy's work is exhibited in Fish Creek Provincial Park, on the Tsuu T'ina Nation and in Willow Tree Healing House in Hinton. It has also been displayed in the Parliament Buildings in Ottawa and the Calgary Stampede Western Art Show. .
